Filing a VAT return on the Lappa platform is a straightforward process. This guide takes you through each stage from transaction upload to final submission.
For detailed VAT information by country, visit the Lappa VAT guides.
Step 1: Upload your transaction data
Open the “Transactions” section and click “Add Transactions”. From here:
- select your sales source — your own website, Amazon, eBay, Shopify, or any other integrated channel;
- specify the type of sales;
- indicate whether Lappa should calculate VAT from your figures, or whether VAT amounts are already included in your export.
As the file uploads, take a moment to verify the details — confirm that currency, transaction codes, and other key fields are correct. Then select and upload your transaction file to complete the import.
Step 2: Review uploaded transactions
Select the relevant reporting period to bring up your uploaded transactions. If the import was successful, all entries will appear correctly and be ready for use in your return.
Step 3: Create your VAT return
Head to the “VAT Returns” section and click “Fill VAT Return”. Choose:
- the country you are reporting for;
- the reason for VAT registration;
- the reporting period.
Lappa will calculate and pre-fill the return based on your uploaded transaction data. If additional entries are needed — such as supplementary sales figures, intra-community acquisitions, or import data — these can be added in the steps that follow within the return preparation flow.
Step 4: Submit to tax authorities
Click “Fill Form” to generate the return. Once created, a confirmation message will appear. Go back to “VAT Returns”, locate your return by selecting the matching period, and carry out a final check of all figures. When everything is confirmed as accurate, click “Submit” — your VAT return will be sent directly to the relevant tax authority.
